Summer Mushroom Foraging for Beginners (Adult class)
Time & Location
Jul 09, 2022, 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM
Clayton, 68 N Main St #3, Clayton, GA 30525, USA
About the Event
Join Cara-Lee Langston to learn about foraging and using local fungi as food and medicine. Our day begins with a short classroom presentation about mushrooms, some show-and-tell, and a few hands-on learning activities. Cara shows you the basics: mushroom characteristics of various typical families, using key identifier species, and recognizing toxic lookalikes. Then it’s on to culinary and medicinal uses and more.
After lunch, we head to a nearby trail to hunt for fungi! On the trail, you will learn to use a variety of guidebooks to identify fungi and their tree allies. We’ll collect specimens and practice spore printing along the way. By the end of the day, you’ll feel more confident about hunting mushrooms on your own as you head home with plenty of reputable resources to continue your learning.
