About the Location
Foxfire is situated on roughly 110 acres, with an interpretive trail connecting to
Black Rock Mountain State Park, which includes three mountain springs with waterfalls.
Visitors can explore these features and learn about mountain ecology and local habitats.
On these hikes, one might see several species of birds, find salamanders in their cool homes, or observe beautiful native wildflowers and other interesting plants and fungi.
Foxfire is also an Appalachian Village made up of over 20 historic log structures,
each home to various artifacts representative of life in the mountains including a
toy museum, blacksmith shop, weaving and broom making studios,
Cherokee wagon display, and wood stove cooking cabins.
Encourage your child to unplug this summer and engage in hands-on activities;
it’s sure to be a learning experience they’ll never forget!
